PRIVACY
We score products, not people.
Least Processed is a read-only product index. There are no accounts, no sign-up, no profiles, and no advertising trackers. Google Analytics runs only if you choose "Accept analytics". This page lists everything the site does that touches your browser or our inbox, so you can verify the claim rather than take it on trust.
What we don't collect
- No personal data is required to use any page on the site.
- No accounts, passwords, or login of any kind.
- No advertising cookies, no cross-site tracking, no fingerprinting.
- No selling or sharing of data with data brokers — we have nothing to sell.
What stays on your device
A few features remember things in your browser's localStorage. This data never leaves your device and we can't read it:
- lp:locale — your country choice (UK / US) from the footer switcher.
- lp:theme — light or dark mode.
- lp:hearted — products you've saved to your shelf.
- lp:visits — a visit counter used for small on-page hints.
- lp:analytics-consent — whether you accepted or rejected Google Analytics, so we don't ask on every page.
- foodle:* — your Foodle streak, per-day game state, and whether you've seen the how-to.
Clearing your browser's site data removes all of it. The site works fine without it — you just lose your saved shelf and streak.
Analytics
We use Vercel Web Analytics to count page views. It is cookieless and aggregate: it doesn't set identifiers on your device, doesn't follow you to other sites, and shows us totals ("this page got N views"), not individuals. Our hosting provider (Vercel) also keeps standard, short-lived server request logs to run the service.
Google Analytics 4 — only with your consent. On your first visit a banner asks whether we may use Google Analytics. Until you choose "Accept analytics", nothing from Google loads: no script, no cookies, no data sent. If you accept, Google Analytics sets its first-party _ga cookies and we send Google:
- a page view per page, with the page address stripped to its path (no query strings or fragments), the page title, and the address of the page you came from (also stripped to its path);
- a
retailer_clickwhen you open a retailer link from a product page (the product and category names, the retailer and its website name — not the link itself); - Foodle game events: that a game started, a hint was used, how it ended and in how many guesses, and whether you copied the share text.
We never send names, email addresses, search text, barcodes you scan or type, or anything you enter in a form. Advertising storage, ad personalisation and Google signals are switched off, so the data isn't used for ads. Google processes it as our analytics provider under Google's privacy policy. You can change your choice at any time with Analytics choices in the footer; rejecting stops collection and deletes the _ga cookies.
If you contact us or submit a form
The site has two forms — sponsor enquiries and report a missing product — plus mailto links in the footer. All three routes go the same place: an email to a human (Alex). Nothing is stored in a database; submissions live only in that email inbox and are used solely to respond to you or to add the product you reported to the public Open Food Facts family of databases (the product data, not your details). If you'd like a submission deleted, reply to the thread or email the address below.
Affiliate and outbound links
Some pages link to retailers through affiliate programmes — every such link is marked and disclosed inline (see our disclosures page). If you click one, the retailer and the affiliate network may set their own cookies and record that the visit came from us; that happens on their site under their privacy policy, not here. Ordinary outbound links (Open Food Facts, cited creators, methodology sources) carry no tracking from us.
Your rights
Under UK GDPR you have rights of access, rectification, and erasure over personal data we hold. In practice the only personal data we could hold is email you've sent us — ask and it's deleted. We don't do automated decision-making or profiling.
Changes
If the site's architecture changes in a way that affects this page — for instance, if we ever add accounts or different analytics — we'll update it here and change the date below.
